The Cape Farm Alliance’s 8th annual Strawberry Festival Weekend is a celebration of local food, farming, art, music and more. This two-day event is always the last weekend of June; so this year it’s June 24th and 25th. And there are new local vendors, local artists, local craftsmen, and local foods to discover every year!
We begin the weekend on Friday night with a lobster bake and local pig roast, hosted by Shady Oak Farm, and sponsored by our generous neighbors, L.P. Murray and Sons. The dinner features live music (Down East Soul Coalition!), local beer and wine (not BYOB this year), a silent auction, and (of course) a fabulous strawberry dessert! This event pulls in a crowd of over 150 patrons each year. Tickets for this very popular dinner are required and always sell out. Tickets ($35/person, all ages) can be purchased at both Alewive’s Brook Farm stand (Old Ocean House Rd., Cape) and Wm. H. Jordan Farm stand (Wells Rd., Cape). You can also purchase tickets online through Brown Paper Tickets.
The following morning, head down to Maxwell’s fields on Two Lights Rd. There you’ll find an enticing array of family-friendly activities, vendors and artists, music, delicious local food, a tractor ride around the whole event, and for the first time – a special ‘Farmers Parade’ at 11! Come dressed as your favorite farm animal, plant, tool – prizes for best costumes!
Thanks to the generosity (again!) of Ainsworth, Thelin and Raftice, P.A., the Saturday Fest will feature terrific live bands! Here’s the musical line-up for Saturday: 10 – 11:30, Matt Loosigan; 11:30 – 1, Muddy Ruckus; 1 – 2:30, Downeast Soul Coalition!
And our friends at Garbage to Garden will help us keep the entire weekend “green and clean” by helping us recycle and compost all the lovely mess we make!
[Please note that strawberry picking will be in whichever of Maxwell’s fields are most abundant that day – often picking is not available in the fields at the Festival site, but down the road on Rte. 77. Picking signs will be posted that day to direct berry lovers. Also, ABSOLUTELY NO DOGGIES ALLOWED – SORRY!]
