Earth Jams offerings

Happy almost winter, music friends. I hope you are faring well these dark days (interpret that as you like).

I wanted to tell you about some fun musical opportunities for your kiddos. First off, the new Music Together semester begins the week of January 2nd. You can sign up here. This is a great class for parents of young ones (infant-preschooler) who are looking for a doorway into the world of making music with your kids. It is a fantastic curriculum. I have been teaching it for over 10 years, and I never want to stop, because it is so much fun. You’ll learn some great songs and also how to make up your own little ditties to keep the rhythm flowing through your life at home.

And here’s a great chance for you home school families to bring some music into the lives of your students. This is a Tuesday class from 10:30-11:30 at the Brunswick Curtis Memorial Library in which we learn about music through singing together, songwriting, listening to music, dancing, art work, eurithmy, and playing rhythm instruments. Find out more about the class and RSVP here.

20150306_100413The flowers are getting ready to explode out of the ground, the peepers are warming up under the leaves, and spring is just around the corner. It’s time to warm up our voices too, and think about giving your kiddos the chance to sing in the spring of their lives.

Music Together spring semester begins the week of April 4 with the Tambourine Song collection. These classes warm my heart, and I hope I get to sing with your family soon.

Dan Garnett

Dan Garnett

Today I am enjoying listening to the music of Dan Garnett. The story of my finding this music is really cool.

A few weeks ago I was walking home from work in the cold, and from the other direction an affable looking guy in a cap and a trench coat, also walking, hailed me. He was staying with a neighbor, his cousin, for a few days, and he had heard that I was a fellow musician.

Right away I felt the spark you get from someone who has transcended the material world and the grind. The lightness to him, his twinkly eyes, and his vibrance made me like him immediately. He travels around a lot, he told me, and was planning to travel to Spain for a walking pilgrimage and then to India.

On a whim I invited him to a singing thing that night, and we had a great time together. Finally I’m getting a chance to listen to his album, which he pulled out of his pocket and gave to me. I am really smitten with his present, emotive, and creative melodies and harmonies. His themes of finding yourself, opening to happiness, generosity, and his spiritual musings are refreshing, and lovely.

It turns out he gives his music away online too. Enjoy his albums, and then pay forward his generosity. http://thetravelingman.com/The_Travleing_Man/Music.html

Now Dan is doing what he is usually doing, traveling on. Two thumbs up for this contemporary Woody Guthrie.
